چکیده

Introduction. Eistla Regio is a broad, low, discontinuous topographic rise striking roughly EW at low northern latitudes of Venus. Some 2000x7000 km in dimension, it is the third largest rise in planform on Venus after Aphrodite Terra and Beta-Phoebe Regiones. These rises are the key physiographic elements in a hot-spot model of global tectonics [1] including transient plume behavior [2]. Since Eistla Regio is the first such dse viewed by Magellan and the latitude is very favorable for Pioneer Venus gravity studies, we attempt to test some of the predictions of a timedependent hot-spot model here. We define western Eisfla Regio as the rise including Gula and sir Mona and central Eisfla Regio as that including Sappho Patera. Superior conjunction prevented Magellan from returning data on eastern Eisfla Regio (Pavlova) during the first mapping cycle.

Topographic Comparisons of Uplift Features on Venus and Earth: Implications for Venus Tectonics

Introduction: Earth and Venus have many similar features, yet their tectonic histories are quite different. Like the Earth, Venus has a global rift system, which has been cited as evidence of tectonic activity, despite the apparent lack of Earth-style plate tectonics. Both systems are marked by large ridges, usually with central grabens. On Earth, the topography of the rifts can be modeled well...

Mechanisms for Lithospheric Heat Transport on Venus: Implications for Tectonic Style and Volcanism

The tectonic and volcanic characteristics of the surface of Venus are poorly known, but these characteristics must be closely related to the mechanism by which Venus rids itself of internal heat. On the other solid planets and satellites of the solar system, lithospheric heat [ransport is dominated by one of three mechanisms: (1) plate recycling, (2) lithospheric conduction, and (3) hot spot vo...

Lack of Mutation in the Hot Spot Region of the Human P53 Gene in a Number of Iranian Hepatocellular Carcinoma Patients

Objectives and Background: Mutation directed inactivation of the tumor suppressor gene p53 have been found incountries with high frequency for hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs). Our goal in the present study was screening of the p53 gene in tumor tissues from HCC affected individuals in southwest Iran for putative mutations in exons 7 and 8 that are known as hot spot regions. Materials & Met...

Geology and Structure of Beta Regio, Venus' Results from Arecibo Radar Imaging

Arecibo radar images of a portion of the equatorial region of Venus provide the first high resolution (1.5to 2.0kin) synoptic coverage of Beta Regio. Within this area, tessera, complex deformed terrain, is identified as a major 40' geologic unit with the largest region corresponding to a plateau on the east flank of the highland. Three models are proposed to explain the origin and evolution of ...

When and how did plate tectonics begin? Theoretical and empirical considerations

Plate tectonics is the horizontal motion of Earth’s thermal boundary layer (lithosphere) over the convecting mantle (asthenosphere) and is mostly driven by lithosphere sinking in subduction zones. Plate tectonics is an outstanding example of a self organizing, far from equilibrium complex system (SOFFECS), driven by the negative buoyancy of the thermal boundary layer and controlled by dissipati...
